Sweetwater State Park contains the ruins of the New Manchester Manufacturing Company mill which made yarn and fabric. The land was originally inhabited by the Cherokee which were relocated along with 20,000 others to Oklahoma via the Trail of Tears. Sweetwater Creek area is rich in biodiversity, geology, and history. The rocks at the surface of the park were deposited at least 450 million years ago. The park has plenty of well marked hiking trails and is a real pleasure to walk along. Sweetwater Creek itself is a beautiful piece of landscape bordered by these massive rock outcroppings.
