Impressionist’s Color Palettes Simplified

March 16th, 2009

The book, “The Impressionists” by Diana Newall which gives a nice overview of many famous Impressionist’s paintings, their basic pallette colors along with other interesting hightlights. I decided to digitally capture the pallettes of several paintings to find out what colors they had in common and I was very surprised by the results. Obviously, the color accuracy will not be extremely high. Here are images of the paintings followed by the sampled color palete for each:

Next, I combined each of the palettes into one single image to get an overall sampling. Here is the image that I sampled:

This is the sampled palette created using the image of the collection of palettes above.

It is amazing how many colors each of the images have in common.

Sometimes the dog is just in your face all the time…

Feed me, pet me, walk me. I don’t care what you do, as long as it is for me. Make me tired so I can go lay down. But until you wear me out, I will irritate you to no end. I will moan and groan and walk around in circles until you obey me. I want you to pay attention to me NOW! I am in your face until you do what I want…

Rainy Weekend Command Center

Rainy weekends can give you a bad case of televisionitis. There are literally hundreds of stations at your fingertips, but there doesn’t seem to be anything interesting on. It seems you’ve seen every movie and recall most of the lines. You’ve read through all your magazines and reading a book just makes you sleepy. The computer already sits in front of your face for 40 hours each week, so why spend a lot of time online? And, of course, Monday is lying in wait wanting to ambush you and take you hostage for another long 5 days. However, a trip to the local rib shack can make a difference along with some good homemade potato salad and an ice cold glass of tea-monade can help you make it through. Life is good and so is rain.
